Chapter 1
Emma sat in her room. It was still a few weeks before Thanksgiving, and yet winter was already on its way to Harmony Hills. Gone were the days of trying to savor the nice weather. now she and her friends were simply figuring out how to spend the days cooped up inside.
Most of Emma’s usual hobbies involved the outdoors. She was still adjusting to having to sit around the house. She wanted to run around, play in the woods, and sit in the sun. Soon none of that would be possible unless you wanted to bundle up.
Emma had remembered once spending almost an hour putting on multiple layers of sweats, a snow suit, a jacket, gloves and boots. She was within seconds of heading out when suddenly her bladder filled up like a water balloon.
If Emma had worn diapers, that wouldn’t have been a problem. She could bundle up and play outside as long as she wanted too. She’d never had to rush back inside after only twenty minutes of play.
But alas, Emma’s new favorite hobby was gone as well. All day and all night, there was only one thing on Emma’s mind. She knew it was weird, she knew it was wrong, and she knew it was the single most exhilarating way to spend her time.
“Emma!” her mother called, “Someone’s here to see you.”
Emma jumped up. She pulled the folded toilet paper out of her underwear and shoved it in the bottom of her garbage can. It was close, but nothing like the real thing.
After that, Emma headed downstairs where she greeted Mimi at the door.
“Hiya!” Mimi waved. “Are you as bored as I am?”
The two made their way to Emma’s room, where Mimi began looking around and invading what was generally considered to be Emma’s personal space.
“Oh, these are some nice clothes,” Mimi said as she went through Emma’s closet.
“Yup,” Emma nodded, “We just went winter clothes shopping last week.”
“Yeah, we're doing that soon... Oh I read that book,” Mimi began pulling various books partially off the shelf, as if looking for a secret passage.
“Uh,” Emma was growing suspicious, “Yeah. It’s good.”
“Anything under the bed?” Mimi was then under Emma’s bed, with a few old socks and some dust bunnies.
“Mimi,” Emma said, poking her head down. “I know what you’re doing. And the answer is no.”
“Come on, Emma!” Mimi crawled out from under the bed. “You didn’t save one, just one measly diaper?”
“No,” Emma put her foot down, “Because it is upsetting my best friend who is also your sister.”
“Well you’re not best friends anymore,” Mimi said, “You haven't talked to her in weeks, because she doesn't want to talk to you, because she has new friends, and because she has moved on. Who cares what your old friend wants. I’m your friend now. And I want to wear diapers.”
Mimi’s words were hurtful, but Emma didn’t feel like bursting into tears. Every word that she had said was true. She and Penny had grown so far apart it didn’t even feel like they were even close in the first place.
“Well,” Emma said, “The store is open. Diapers are always on sale somewhere.”
Mimi pouted. Nothing seemed to be going her way so far.
Chapter 2
Mimi sat alone at the lunch table. She was quiet, barely moving, and all around not herself. Fourth grade had taken its toll all of her friends. However, the most upsetting part about the fourth grade was that it had not taken its toll on Mimi. In fact, Mimi’s greatest misery was that she had nothing to be miserable about.
“Still moping about you know what?” Emma said as she sat down.
“Yes,” Mimi said, “And no. I’m sort of over the diapers at this point. I just feel like everyone has been having adventures. Losing their friends, punching Abigail, getting kidnapped by a crazy lady. Me? I got a fish. And she died.”
“Who died?!” Lilly asked as she sat down.
“I thought you were gonna be friends with Brittany and Courtney from now on?” Emma asked.
Lilly rolled her eyes. “God, those two,” she said, “It’s always soccer, soccer, soccer with them. I’ll take your diaper drama any day.”
“Lilly,” Mimi said, “You’re a jerk!”
“Huh?” Lilly was completely confused and in no way insulted. "Why?"
“She wants to lose a friend,” Emma said, “Because she thinks nothing interesting has happened to her this year.”
“Sorry, Mimi,” Lilly said, “You guys are the only friends I have now.”
“What do you mean?” Emma asked.
Suddenly, Rena and Izzy sat down with their trays. Rena did not look happy as she looked right into Lilly’s eyes and asked, “Did you pee in Brittney’s bed?”
“No!” Lilly defended herself, “I just tried being friends with all those guys because I got sick of discussing the latest drama about who is wetting what.”
“So you peed in Brittney’s bed?” Rena asked.
“Those two just got all weird,” Lilly explained, “We were getting along at her sleepover and all of a sudden they decided they didn’t want me to be their friend anymore.”
“Because you peed in Brittney's bed!” Rena declared.
“I thought you said you didn't want to be their friend because you didn’t like them talking about soccer all the time?” Emma asked.
“The whole soccer team is taking this out on me,” Rena explained, “All because they think we’re friends.”
“We are friends,” Lilly reminded her.
“I didn’t know you wet the bed too, Lilly,” Izzy said.
“What do you mean too?” Mimi asked.
“I don’t!” Lilly once again attempted to defend herself, “Soccer players just drink a lot of Gatorade and they make you drink a lot of Gatorade too.”
“I miss one soccer sleepover,” Rena lamented, “Just one. And everything comes crashing down.
“Anyway,” Emma said, “How are you, Izzy?”
The table went silent. everyone looked at Emma and Izzy.
“Oh?” Nobody, especially Emma, ever shined the spotlight on Izzy. “I’m fine,” Izzy said, but Emma clearly wanted to hear a bit more, “Uhm... I felt my baby brother kick last night.”
Emma smiled. “It must be nice,” she said, “To have a little baby brother or sister at your age. I don’t remember Josie being a baby at all.”
“Oh yeah,” Izzy said, “In a few years I’ll be old enough to baby sit. My mommy is really happy about that. She’s not too happy she’s getting unexpected diaper changing practice with me though.”
The table grew silent, this time for a completely different reason. Rena buried her face into her palm.
“Uhm,” Mimi said, “Excuse me, but WHAT?”
“Because I started wearing them at night,” Izzy casually said, as if it was perfectly normal, common knowledge.
“So, let me get this straight,” Mimi began, “Penny gets to wear diapers for like ten years. Nicole gets to wear them because her dad is in jail. Emma and Lilly and someone named Susie got to wear them for like months. And now Izzy gets to wear one every day.”
“Am I missing something?” Rena was confused.
“Mimi is jealous about,” Emma thought about it for a second, and then said, “Everything.”
“All I want to do is go to the bathroom without having to get up,” Mimi said, “What do I have to do to make that happen!?”
The table was silent again, until Izzy piped up and said, “What if you just sat on the toilet to, like, read a book, and then you wouldn’t have to get up to pee?”
Mimi sighed. “I’m going to get a popsicle.”
Chapter 3
After school, Mimi and Lilly were waiting to be picked up. Lilly was talking about something. Mimi wasn’t listening. She had something else on her mind.
Just as Lilly’s story was maybe going somewhere, Mimi saw Izzy walk out of the school.
“And so that’s why today’s episode is extra special important because,” Lilly looked over at Mimi, who had suddenly run off. “Hey!”
Mimi caught up with Izzy and said, “Hi, there. What’s up.”
“Oh,” Izzy wasn’t expecting this. It was the second time someone besides Rena or Nicole ever singled her out. “Hi, Mimi.”
“I was... Uhm,” Mimi rethought about her plan in her head and said, “Can we go talk somewhere. Privately?”
“Oh,” Izzy nodded, “Of course.”
The two put some distance between themselves and the other kids and sat down for a chat.
“So what’s on your mind?” Izzy asked.
“Can you keep a secret?” Mimi whispered, even though that had made a point to be out of anyone’s earshot. Izzy nodded, and Mimi went on, “For the past few nights... I’ve been wetting the bed.”
“Really?” Izzy asked.
Mimi nodded. She was, of course, lying. It wasn’t a sophisticated plan, but a smart one at least. She thought she could get on Izzy’s soft side with some fake bedwetting stories and possibly get what she really wanted in return.
“It’s so embarrassing,” Mimi assumed, “One time it happened three times in one night and woke up the whole house. My parents took turns dealing with it but after the third time they both just decided I should sleep in the bathtub until morning.”
“That’s so horrible,” Izzy said to Mimi’s exaggerated story that had actually happened to Penny a few years prior. “Is there anything I can do?”
“Well,” Mimi said, “Maybe you could bring me some of your diapers?”
“Hmm,” Izzy thought about it for a second and then said, “No.”
“What?!” Mimi had no idea that would be Izzy’s answer.
“I’m not stupid,” Izzy said.
"You're not?" Mimi almost said out loud.
“I know what you’re doing. Diapers and bedwetting are not all that fun and you shouldn’t lie just to get them.”
With that, Izzy stood up and walked away.
Mimi had no idea what had just happened to her. Izzy had suddenly grown into an entirely new person, figuring out her schemes and actually standing up to her. The old Izzy would’ve given up the diapers without the sad story, which was technically not a lie anyway.
Mimi counted her losses when she saw her mom pull up, and decided to put another plan into action.
* * *
Susie was outside painting a giant turkey on some poster board when some girl she barely recognized came out of nowhere and said, “Hey! I hear you’re giving out diapers. Gimme some.”
Susie looked around, praying no one heard her, and said, “Quiet down. Who exactly are you?”
“We’ve met,” the girl said, “I’m Mimi. I’m best friends with Lilly and Emma. You’d know about me if you were really their friend.”
“Well then,” Susie put her hands on her hips and said, “If you were really their friend you would have been invited to wear diapers in the first place.”
Mimi was growing hot headed. She got her revenge when she said, “You got paint on your shirt.”
In Susie’s dramatics, she had indeed put her paint-covered hands on her hips. “Well,” she said, “I don’t have any more diapers.”
“Liar!” Mimi shouted.
“Nope,” Susie explained, “The only way we were getting them was because my baby brother was... Well a baby. Anyway, he potty trained pretty fast, we had one pack of Pull-Ups in the house, but he stopped needing them before they were gone.”
“So there are some around the house somewhere?” Mimi prayed. Blue Pull-ups with astronauts on them weren't ideal, but they were better than nothing.
Susie shook her head. “And besides,” she said, “Even if I did have some, I wouldn’t wear them and I certainly wouldn’t give them to you. Not until Penny comes around. Wait... Aren't you her sister?”
“Have you even met Penny?!” Mimi asked, “You just strolled into this town and starting giving out diapers to everyone but me. Do you even have any friends?”
“What?” Susie was taken back, “What is wrong with you? I have tons of friends, you don’t know any of them, except Abigail maybe, because they’re in a different school. And Penny is your sister, so shouldn’t you know the most what this is all doing to her?”
“You’re friends with Abigail?” Mimi couldn’t quite process that one. “Why?”
“Because unlike all of you little kids,” Susie said, “I don’t hate perfectly fine people for no reason.”
“Little kids?!” Mimi was once again perplexed, “We’re like two years apart. And Abigail is...” Mimi struggled to actually remember what was wrong with Abigail.
“You might be in the oldest class at Elementary School,” Susie explained, “But I’m in the oldest class in the Middle School. The difference there is astounding.”
Mimi just stared at her, confused. “What are stoundings?”
Chapter 4
Mimi stormed back into her house and headed upstairs. She stopped at the door to her bedroom and then suddenly formulated another plan. She turned right around and then headed into Penny’s room instead.
“What do you want?” Penny asked as sat on the floor and did her homework.
“Nothing,” Mimi said as she plopped down on Penny’s bed, “”I was just wandering around and I was thinking. About stuff.”
“What kind of stuff?” Penny asked.
“Oh, you know,” Mimi said, “Like, do you think that you can maybe forgive Emma and the others any time soon?”
Penny shrugged. “I’m still kind of upset about the whole thing,” she said and then added, “I could probably forget about it sooner or later. It would help if people didn’t bring it up all the time.”
“Yeah, I hate that too,” Mimi said, “So what do you need, like another week?”
“Mimi,” Penny sat up, “I know we haven’t been hanging out much lately. I have a lot more work in school now and... Yeah, I’m mad at Emma and Lilly. Sorry if that’s who you spend most of your time with, but I just can’t stand to be around them right now. We can hang out, just the two of us, some other time, okay?”
“Okay!” Mimi smiled.
After making the promise of spending more time together, Penny instantly kicked Mimi out of her room.
* * *
Mimi was not going to give up just yet. She left Penny’s room and decided to head down the street to confront the real source of her strife.
“What do you want now, Mimi?” Emma asked.
“You’re coming over,” Mimi said, “To apologize to Penny and get your friend back and then I can wear diapers.”
“Mimi,” Emma said, “Is there a reason you’re like this?”
“Why can’t you all be friends?!” Mimi demanded to know “Why does everything have to be like this?!”
“Mimi,” Emma tried to console Mimi, who was on her way to tears. “Listen. I’m sorry that your life hasn’t been all that perfect. But you’ll just have to accept that this is the way things are now. I’m sad too, I don’t want things to change. At all.”
“So do something about it!” mimi demanded.
“I tried!” Emma said, “But she doesn’t even want to talk to me.”
“So then why don’t you go back to diapers,” Mimi asked, “If you accept that you and Penny aren’t friends anymore, why don’t you wear them?”
Emma had clearly not thought about it like that. She was most likely lying to herself, still wanting to be friends with Penny.
"Penny was my first best friend," Emma said, "I can't just pretend that we never knew each other. I know that one day we will be friends again. And if we keep wearing diapers in her memory, that's not going to happen."
“Fine!” Mimi said as she stormed off.
* * *
Abigail was walking her cat, Fluffy, around the neighborhood when she bumped into Mimi.
“Oh,” she said, “Look what the... Hang on.”
“Hi, Abigail,” Mimi said.
“How dare you... Wait,” Abigail said, “What did you say?”
Mimi shrugged. “Just sayin’ hello.”
Abigail paused. “Shouldn’t you be hating me or something?” she asked.
“Why?” Mimi asked, “I don’t hate you. I’ve never had a reason to. I mean, I was trying to think of one earlier. But I got nothing. Sure, you're kinda mean. But so what? Who wants to live in a world where everyone is nice to everyone else?”
Abigail was silent and still, taken back by Mimi’s words.
“What are you doing right now,” Mimi asked, “Want to hang out or something?”
A tear swelled in Abigail’s eyes. The second that Mimi noticed it, Abigail put on her usual persona.
“I guess,” she said, snobbishly, “But only because I don’t have anything better to do right now.”
Chapter 5
Abigail’s room was exactly as Mimi had expected it to be. Pink. Her bed was massive and covered with a frilly pink comforter and a dozen pink pillows. The walls were covered with photographs and paintings of Abigail. Bookshelves were filled with prizes and awards that Abigail had won at pageants and dance competitions.
The moment the two walked in, Abigail grabbed a doll off her bed and tossed it into the closet, which she promptly closed. “So,” Abigail said, “Does my amazing room overwhelm you?”
“It’s boring!” Mimi declared, “Where are your toys?”
“Sorry I’m not a kid anymore,” Abigail said, “Come here.” Abigail sat Mimi down on her small seat and got a few supplies out of her drawers. “I think it’s about time someone taught you about make-up.”
Mimi blushed and giggled as Abigail made her look beautiful.
“So I know you’re adopted,” Abigail said, “But do you know like... Are you Chinese or something?”
Mimi shrugged. “Nobody knows,” she said, “At least that’s what my parents tell me.”
“Do you remember anything from before you were adopted?” Abigail asked.
“Nope,” Mimi said, “I barely remember a lot about what happened afterwards. I’ve been Penny’s little sister for as long as I’ve know.”
“That’s weird,” Abigail said.
“Not as weird as all those trophies,” Mimi said.
“Hey!” Abigail said, “I worked really hard to win those. I have to practice for hours a day. The Thanksgiving one is coming up, and that’s been super intense.”
“If you say so,” Mimi said.
“Why don’t you come and see for yourself,” Abigail said.
* * *
“She really said that?” Lilly asked. Mimi nodded, and Lilly went on, “So are you gonna go? Are you guys like... Friends now?”
Mimi shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe. Is that okay with you? Or are we not friends anymore too?”
“God,” Lilly said, “I am sick of all this drama about people not being friends anymore because of all this... Crap!”
Mimi nodded. “It’s not worth it anymore. I don’t care about diapers, I just want us all to get along and be friends.”
“So are we still best friends?” Lilly asked.
“I don’t know,” Mimi said with a hint of sass, “Abigail is a lot better at makeup than you.”
“Oh I can so do your makeup!” Lilly defended.
“Plus she is much more mature,” Mimi added.
“I can be so mature!” Lilly declared.
“And,” Mimi finished, “Abigail probably doesn’t still have accidents in her bed.”
Lilly said nothing at first, and then said, “Well, that was less of an accident and more of a way to get back at Brittney and Courtney for being... Awful, awful people.”
The two shared a laugh together.
“You know what,” Mimi said, “I think my life will be less complicated without diapers.”
“You have no idea how lucky you are,” Lilly said.
Chapter 6
After school the next day, Mimi was feeling much better about her entire life and her future. Growing up didn’t seem too bad. Sure, she had missed out on some fun, but she and her sister were never going to stop being friends.
Just as Mimi was about to head home, Emma slipped by her and said, “Come to my house after homework.”
Mimi didn’t know what to expect. As soon as she got home she threw her book bag down and headed over to Emma’s place.
“So what’s up?” Mimi asked after she was led up into Emma’s room.
“You’re early,” Emma said, “Did you seriously finish your homework that fast?”
“I don’t do homework,” Mimi said.
Emma rolled her eyes, but after she closed the door, she didn’t say a word. She simply opened her dresser and, from under her stacks of clothes, pulled out two diapers.
“WHAT,” Mimi’s eyes widened and her her jaw dropped wide open.
“I saved two,” Emma said, “For a special occasion.”
“What’s the occasion?” Mimi wondered.
“The occasion is,” Emma explained, “I want to wear a diaper and share the experience with my friend.”
Mimi jumped at Emma and embraced her, squealing like a kid in a diaper store.
“Calm down, Mimi,” Emma said, “You don’t want to get too excited before you even put the diaper on.”
After Mimi calmed down a bit, they started diapering themselves. After Emma was done, she looked over at Mimi, who was having a bit of trouble getting the diaper on.
“Here,” Emma said as she went over to help Mimi.
When the two were all diapered up, Mimi looked down and stared at her diaper. “So,” she asked, “Now what?”
“What do you mean?” Emma asked.
“Is this it?” Mimi asked. “I’ve been whining and complaining forever about nothing?”
“It’s not instant,” Emma said, “You just sort of sit down and soak it in.” She then giggled and added, “And then you just soak it.”
“Oh!” Mimi exclaimed, “I forgot about that.”
Mimi squatted and almost instantly Emma could hear the hissing sound of a bladder emptying into a diaper, the front of which began to darken and sag.
“Wow,” Emma said, “It took me like.. Days before I could do that.”
Mimi closed her eyes and quietly made the sound that everyone makes when they take a sip of Coke. “This. Is. Amazing.”
The two just spent the rest of their time simply sitting around, talking, playing with dolls, and the such. It didn’t take long for Emma, who hadn’t peed since lunch, to wet her diaper as well.
"So why the change of heart?" Mimi asked. "You don't want to be friends with Penny anymore?"
"I do," Emma said, "But if she can't forgive me, I can't just put all this aside and forget it never happened. I like Penny, but i like diapers too."
"Yeah," Mimi said, "I do want everyone to be friends, but this is still pretty fun."
After a while, the two decided that it was time to end their fun. Their diapers were sagging and growing uncomfortable, and it was almost dinner time.
“You can go change first,” Emma said, pointing Mimi to the bathroom.
Emma sat around her room for a bit, enjoying the feeling of her warm, bulging diaper. Mimi came back in and handed Emma the diaper, which was wrapped up in a plastic bag.
“Thanks,” she said, “This was... The best thing anyone’s ever done for me.”
“I’m glad I could help,” Emma said. The two hugged, and Mimi departed.
After that, Emma spent a few more minutes lounging around in her diaper. It had suddenly occurred to her that she was now entirly out of diapers, she hadn't planned on using two at once. She found herself conscious of the fact that this was it. The end had come. Once she changed, she would never wear a diaper again.
It was sad, but that's the way it was going to have to be.
Ready to change out of her last diaper, Emma hopped off her bed and took off her shirt. She was standing in nothing but a wet diaper when the door opened, and her mom walked in.
Chapter 7
“Emma,” her mom said, eyes filled with fury and confusion, “What is going on?”
There was no response. Emma was silent, she was a deer and her mother was the massive lights on a sixteen wheeler.
“Emma,” Anne said, “Explain yourself right now.”
“I... Uhm... Well,” Emma stuttered, unsure of what to do.
Anne closed the door. “Sit down,” she said.
Emma moved toward the bathroom and said, “I’m just gonna go change real-”
“SIT DOWN,” Anne said, the force of her words seemingly pushing Emma down onto the bed. “Now,” she said, “One more time. Explain yourself.”
Emma’s heart was racing, she gave up and simply told her nothing but the truth. Everything from the beginning. How she had always wanted to wear diapers and had finally acted on those urges. She was careful to not throw her friends under bridge, leaving Lilly and Mimi out of her fun and not acknowledging how Penny had gotten her interested or how Susie had been her supplier.
When Emma finished her story, her mother paused and took it all in. Anne took a deep breath. “Okay,” she said, “Where were you getting them from?”
Still not wanting to throw Susie under the bridge, Emma simply said, “I just saved up extra lunch money here and there and snuck off to the store one day.”
“So,” Anne said, accepting that story, “You like diapers? They’re something you actually want to wear?”
Emma sheepishly nodded.
“Alright then,” her mother said, “I don’t see any problem with that.”
Emma’s head turned up. “What? Really?”
“I get why you felt like hiding this," she said, "But you don't ever have to be afraid to tell me something. I'm your mother, remember?"
"So," Emma said, "You'll really buy me diapers?
Anne nodded, "But there are gonna be some rules.”
“Okay!” Emma nodded, suddenly unable to believe that this was actually happening. A moment ago she was saying goodbye to her diapers forever, and now she was suddenly being offered them.
“You will not be a baby, just a girl who wears diapers,” was the first rule. Anne elaborated with, “I don’t mind you wearing diapers, but you’re not gonna start crawling around or drinking from a bottle. You will carry your own supplies, which will come out of your allowance, and you will change yourself. You can wear them whenever you want, at home, around the neighborhood, and even to school.”
“Is this for real?” Emma asked just to be sure.
Anne nodded. “You’re not hurting anyone,” she said, “And you’re the one risking something here. If you are willing to be found out as the girl who wears diapers, that’s fine with me. It’s your call.”
Emma thought about it for one second, and then said, “Okay.”
Her life had just gone through a roller coaster. She said goodbye to the one thing that made her so happy, and now she was being given it by the one person she was afraid of even mentioning it to.
Emma even knew that, since she'd have a supply coming in as long as she was well behaved and did her chores, she'd be able to wear them whenever she wanted and could even share the with her friends. Lily and Susie were going to be happy. Mimi was going to be really happy.
But Emma was the most happy of all. Because now she had diapers.
* * *
“Come on, you can’t be that tired already, you just had a break thirty minutes ago.”
Abigail’s mom was pushing her to the limit, and it was going to kill her. All the practice for the upcoming Thanksgiving Pageant was getting to be too much for Abigail, who was sick of doing the same dance over and over again.
“It’s late,” she said, “Can’t I just go to bed already?”
Abigail’s mom looked at the clock and shrugged, “Fine. But you’re gonna wake up early tomorrow for a quick practice before breakfast.”
“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Abigail said as she dragged her tired and exhausted body toward her room.
“Oh and Abigail,” her mother said. Abigail turned back around. “We don’t want to have a repeat of last night. So don’t forget to put on your Pull-Up before bed.”
Abigail groaned. “I won’t” the princess said, and headed off to change her diaper.

* * *

* * *
